- Fern-C is sodium ascorbate, a form of vitamin C which is more readily absorbed by the body (up to 95% absorption). The more readily absorbed a nutrient is, the more effective it becomes.
Taking Fern-C has the advantage over taking other forms of vitamin C, ascorbic acid for example, in that it is less acidic, making Fern-C safe for those who have easily upset stomachs and ulcers. Unlike ascorbic acid, which becomes more effective only when taken after a meal, Fern-C can be taken on an empty stomach. Less acidity also means Fern-C helps the body attain a neutral or above neutral pH (7.0-7.5)—the pH level which is considered healthy (many common illnesses and certain forms of cancer occur at acidic pH levels, levels below neutral).
