For those who know about the benefits of red wine, but do not want the alcohol or calories. The story all began when researchers at the Harvard Medical School and the National Institute on Aging reported that a molecule called resveratrol that is found in the skin of red grapes and hence in red wine had offset the negative effects of a high caloric diet and increased the lifespan of mice. For years red wine has been linked to numerous health benefits. The reason appears to be that it contains resveratrol. Resveratrol seems to mimic the beneficial effects of eating less without the hassle of dieting. Resveratrol seems to work by increasing the activity level of a gene called SIRT1. SIRT1 is the anti-aging gene. It is present in all complex life forms on the planet. It protects cells against damage and the ravages of everyday living. It reduces the development of new fat cells and increases the use of fat within existing fat cells. Studies by researchers all over the world have come up with positive results with resveratrol and many possible indications for its usefulness. Dr. David Sinclair at Harvard Medical School is credited with much of the groundbreaking research involving resveratrol. In a November 2006 interview on Fox News, Dr. Sinclair stated that "If we're right about this, it would mean you could have the benefit of restricting calories without having to feel hungry. It's the Holy Grail of aging research." Each cap contains an amount equivalent to approximately 6-7 glasses of red wine without the alcohol, calories and preservatives.
